It comes as no surprise to us that Givenchy creative director Clare Waight Keller has chosen PITTI UOMO in Florence, Italy to present the brand’s new Spring 2020 menswear collection. Prior to Clare Waight Keller, Givenchy did not formally present a standalone collection for men, Keller’s Givenchy fall 2019 collection last season is the first.
Her vision for the Givenchy man is described by Vogue as “a new kind of youthful aspiration”, where money and social status are unimportant.
I went into my own self, really, back into the ’90s, and how I felt when I was really young, how we’d dress on not a lot of money. At Givenchy we have young Parisians from schools here, and there’s this same perverse poshness, wearing tailoring in a really sharp way, with a shirt or T-shirt.

In other words, menswear can be chic and stylish no matter what. And where better to reinforce this idea than Pitti Uomo, the global menswear trade show known to attract thousands of fashion lovers who are in attendance to take part in the International fair and to commune with their own stylish kind.
Pitti Uomo, for those unfamiliar with it, is like fashion week but it has the three I’s, inclusivity, innovation and influence. Pitti Uomo is the place to discover men’s fashion trends of today and to source new ideas for men’s fashion in the approaching future.
Here you will find global brands big and small, commercial and high fashion, sharing ideas, new techniques, and new styles. The four day fair is hosted twice a year in January and June and is jam packed with lectures, events and fashion shows.
Prior to Clare Waight Keller, Pitti Uomo’s guest designers include Virgil Abloh for Off-White S/S 2018, Gosha Rubchinskiy S/S 2017, and Raf Simons F/W 2017.
But Givenchy presenting their menswear collection at Pitti Uomo is without a doubt the most important Parisian fashion house to show in Italy to date.
It is a huge honor for us to host the runway debut of the Givenchy men’s collection under the creative direction of Clare Waight Keller. A strong, modern and elegant vision: it is the perfect project for Pitti Uomo.

Givenchy Maison’s creator Hubert de Givenchy founded the legendary brand in 1952. The high fashion designer is most known for his long partnership with Hollywood actress Audrey Hepburn and the creation of the LBD (Little Black Dress) worn in the iconic film Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961). Before he died in 2018 Givenchy and The Netherlands Hague Museum presented an exhibition in her honor and to the many influential women Givenchy has designed for.
The Givenchy brand has had great name creative directors since Hubert de Givenchy left his eponymous label in 1995 including Alexander McQueen, Riccardo Tisci and Ozwald Boateng, the first black man to helm Givenchy’s menswear division. Clare Waight Keller is the first woman to ever lead the Givenchy Maison and she is now the most famous after designing the captivating Givenchy Haute Couture boatneck wedding gown in double white silk cady with a hand-embroidered veil worn by Ms. Meghan Markle, now the Duchess of Sussex, to marry Prince Harry.
Clare Waight Keller – the British designer and artistic director of Givenchy since spring 2017- will present the brand’s new menswear collection at Pitti Uomo with a special event scheduled for June 12, 2019.
