It is safe to say the Dior saddle bag is back. The unique bag reemerged from the archives in February during the Fall/Winter 2018-19 fashion show in Paris and it appeared again on May 25th during the Dior 2019 Cruise collection in Chantilly, France.

The iconic bag first came to light during Dior’s glory days under John Galliano. The unique saddle bag was introduced by Galliano in October 1999 during Dior’s Lauryn Hill inspired collection for Spring/Summer 2000.
The purse became the “it” bag of the season when it appeared on the arm of Carrie Bradshaw, the fictitious and well loved fashionista played by Sarah Jessica Parker in “Sex and the City”.

The saddle bag retired around 2006 but it made a come back in the 2000 teens when everyone from Kendal Jenner to Beyonce started wearing a vintage version of the saddle bag.

I’m happy to see Dior’s new creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri honor the legacy of the bag – particularly because I have two vintage Dior saddle bags in my possession.
