Burberry announced today that it will be cementing its commitment to LGBTQ+ communities through a series of initiatives. The LGBTQ+ rainbow will feature prominently across the brand’s February 2018 collection.
The rainbow is a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) pride and LGBTQ social movements. Other uses of the rainbow flag include a symbol of peace and the colors reflect the diversity of the LGBTQ community.
The introduction of a new rainbow check is the latest iteration of Burberry’s most iconic symbol.
‘My final collection here at Burberry is dedicated to – and in support of – some of the best and brightest organisations supporting LGBTQ+ youth around the world. There has never been a more important time to say that in our diversity lies our strength, and our creativity.’
Christopher Bailey, Burberry President and Chief Creative Officer
Though Bailey will step down from the board at the end of March, he will continue to provide support to chief executive officer Marco Gobbetti and the team until the end of the year. Burberry has not announced his successor yet.
