The New York Fashion Week Spring 2020 shows and events begin Friday, September 6th and conclude Wednesday, September 11th. In case you are wondering, there are four sustainable designers at New York Fashion Week this season including luxury labels Ryan Roche and Mara Hoffman, dynamic swimwear label Chromat, and, a local favorite, Collina Strada. Each brand has a strong sustainability mission that considers fair trade practices, local or low-impact production, and/or transparent sourcing methods.

Ryan Roche manufactures responsible, sustainable, low-impact designs. She is well known for her harmonious balance with color and texture.

Chromat is one of the few fashion labels produced locally in New York City. In addition, they also produce in safe, ethical, fair-wage factories in Sofia, Bulgaria. Chromat designs swimwear from regenerated nylon spun from fishing nets and plastic bottles recovered from the ocean.

Collina Strada also produces locally in New York City. Created by Hillary Taymour, her main concern is to stay true to her craft and become a fully sustainable and radically transparent brand.

Mara Hoffman is one of the most successful sustainable fashion labels in New York. While not 100% sustainable the website states Mara’s “aim is to design and manufacture garments with greater care and to reduce impact, generate awareness. (The brand) uses responsibly sourced organic, recycled, and regenerated materials whenever possible.”
I’m amazed at the Mara Hoffman designer! Mainly for the fact that she uses organic and regenerated material for her brand. Love the black tube top.

Totally agree. Other designers you might love then are Nanushka and Mother of Pearl. They are also featured on The Fashion Plate. Thank you for sharing.
