If I went on a search for God, I’d wear Isabel Benenato. wo

When I finally found God, I’d ask if she would take me as I am and she’d say, “I made you, you’re perfect”.

Ok, a bit dramatic I know but believe it or not that is the story that went through my head as I watched the Isabel Benenato Spring 2019 runway show. Seriously, the collection is so serene and pure, and watching the models as they walked the runway in the designs was like having a religious experience. I wanted to go on that journey searching for God hoping for acceptance and forgiveness. THAT is how impactful Isabel Benenato’s collection was for me.

This is my second time experiencing her show. And I’ve decided Isabel Benenato is one of the great dark designers whose clothing evokes a sense of irreverence. The perfectly cut, monochromatic pieces, the blunt edginess, the punk femininity, the complete disassociation from gimmicks – her aesthetic reminds me of the early years of designers like Anne Demuelmester and Rick Owens.

This is exciting. We need a new designer who is comfortable with the spiritual and the physical reality of life. And is able to project those thoughts and emotions through creation. And that’s Isabel Benenato.
