When it comes to style and pushing the envelope Mary J. Blige is an unsung heroine. The R&B Diva is as well known for her original style as she is for her soulful songs. Her style secret is that she isn’t afraid to go her own way and be authentic. She often champions amazing but under-represented designers wearing looks both on the red carpet and for shows on tour.

Here recently, while on her Strength of A Woman album tour in Atlanta, Mary J. Blige rocked two catsuits by hot newcomer Iris Barbee Bonner’s label These Pink Lips.  I can easily imagine when celebrity stylist Law Roach presented the bold bodysuits to Mary J. she didn’t hesitate.

And she looks incredible.

Designer Iris Barbee Bonner is a rising star in the fashion and art world. Earlier this year the body positive designer created costumes for Stephen Petronio’s contemporary dance company based in New York. The dramatic designs landed her a feature in the New York Times.

And recently Bonner made an appearance on ABC news. She spoke about her start as a fashion designer, her upcoming fashion show in Los Angeles on June 23rd and landing her coat on the Billboard’s top selling artist Cardi B.

Surprisingly the empowering designer has never been nominated for a fashion award or recognized in high fashion circles for her positive message.
