A few days ago, Senator Kamala Harris introduced legislation against separating families at the border stating, “our country needs to be better than this”.
A few days ago, I introduced legislation to end this Administration's cruel policy of breaking up families at the border because of the devastating consequences it can have. Our country needs to be better than this. https://t.co/1JtBmbkZin

Senator Harris was prompted by the recent story of a Honduran father separated from his wife and child and suffered a breakdown at a Texas jail and killed himself in a padded cell last month, according to Border Patrol agents and an incident report filed by sheriff’s deputies.
Muñoz’s death occurred not long after the Trump administration began implementing its “zero-tolerance” crackdown on illegal migration, measures that include separating parents from their children and the threat of criminal prosecution for anyone who enters the United States unlawfully.
Officials at U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Washington, which oversees border enforcement, have not commented on Muñoz’s death nor the whereabouts of his wife and child.
