LVMH finalist Molly Goddard designs for the non-conforming girl. Someone with an independent spirit who is attracted to adventure. She is both rebellious and romantic, and she is cool and unapologetic. For Molly Goddard fall/ winter 2018-19 this translates into ball gowns designed to be modern and uninhibited.
The formality of the collection is in the sweeping designs and the use of taffeta and tulle as the main fabrics. Typically gowns are cumbersome but the tech fabrics of today are more light-weight and sustainable. This allows Goddard to use both fabrics liberally and to create something that is wearable, durable and keeps the romantic effect.
The standout look is a simple midriff top paired with a long, gold foil taffeta skirt or a simple pleated cotton skirt. It is a very modern style, and no corset is needed! Goddard also modernizes the looks with fabric knapsacks, and she swaps traditional high heels with ankle-wrap sandals and colorful tights.
