Jennifer Lopez was in Puerto Rico during the 2017 Golden Globes awards providing much needed aid to the millions of United States citizens left without power following the devastation of Hurricane Maria.
The superstar shared the moment on Instagram to more than 71 million fans.
The night of the 2017 Golden Globes on January 7th Jennifer Lopez announced a two million dollar donation to the Health Centers of Puerto Rico at Integral Health Council of Loiza. She also took the opportunity upon landing in Loiza, Puerto Rico to address the situation of how Puerto Ricans have been treated by the government.
“I stand here in black doing the same [supporting #timesup] from far away. It’s the same here in Puerto Rico, we want to be treated equally,”
In a recent poll in the United States, 41 percent of respondents said they did not believe that Puerto Ricans were U.S. citizens, and 15 percent were not sure. Only 43 percent answered that Puerto Ricans were U.S. citizens.
