Apple Discontinues It’s Cheapest iPod Product But It Makes Total Sense.
Once coined the “gateway drug” to apple products by Steve Jobs the iPod shuffle, the cute little $49 clip-on 2 GB device, was Apple’s cheapest and smallest iPod model.
And Apple has decided to discontinue the series along with the iPod nano leaving the iPod touch as the sole device in the iPod family.
In a statement, Apple representatives said: “We are simplifying our iPod line-up with two models of iPod touch now with double the capacity starting at just $199 and we are discontinuing the iPod shuffle and iPod nano.”
We’ll miss the colorful clip-and-go device but even we understand that the love we have for the original iPod products cannot contend with the rise in streaming services – where you can have all your music on your phone and there’s no need to download MP3s.
