The new Spring 2017 collection is a big departure from the Marc Jacobs brand we’ve known the past decade. The stricture of his tenure at Louis Vuitton has worn off completely as Jacobs embraces his early days of trendy fashion and commercial statement items.
“I felt we should do something friendlier, kinder, pretty, lots of prints. Except, I did it my way”, Marc Jacobs said at a press preview.
The easy style of boho chic hovering around the 80s is definitely there to embrace. Girls forgo wearing silk stockings and make do with bobby socks. Wool, silk, leather, nylon, etc. are utilized for making trendy uniforms. A key note is the broad shoulder, the heavily padded jacket is a new addition to the Marc Jacobs signature line.
Yet, Jacobs’ perspective is an extravagant one. That extravagance incorporated some trappings of couture — flamboyant feathers sprouting from jacket shoulders; endlessly intricate embroideries sourced from some of haute’s most storied suppliers.
Broken down, many of the clothes are beautiful. In aggregate, it is fun at a fevered pitch.
