New York: If there is a better sports utility label in fashion I’m not aware of it. This is Chromat’s  sophomore collection and it is even better than the first. Tailoring, shape and functionality are on point this season and show the unlimited creativity of the recently wed designer Becca McCharen-Tran.

Chromat’s magic is the excitement McCharen-Tran brings into high fashion with an active category. The designer’s background in architecture and subcultures benefit the design, aesthetics and incredible fit.

Backstage right before the show McCharen-Tran told a house of press officers that Olympic gold medal swimmers Katie Ledecky and Simone Manuel are the inspiration for what turns out is an extra strong collection.

McCharen-Tran seamlessly blends style and function. For example a pale blue bikini is bonded with contrasting black straps and red clips—each are welded to resemble an hourglass figure. And a neoprene top with hanging pseudo-overall straps, and a mesh hooded beach cover-up would look just as good at a gymnastic club as it would worn by a fashionable poolgoer.
