In just a few days the 9th annual St. Moritz Art Masters will launch in Geneva, Switzerland. Tried and true, the biennial will once again be a highlight of the summer programs in the Alpine country, featuring extraordinary exhibitions at the local galleries.
What’s new? Each year the St. Moritz Art Masters features a different geographical region. This year they turn their attention to the American art scene.
With a varied, cross-genre program the St. Moritz Art Masters puts its focus on the USA’s pop culture, circa the late 1900s. Photography and video installation will be paid tribute to with exhibitions for Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Julian Schnabel, and Laurie Anderson. There will also be a focus on sculpture and drawings, such as the exhibition for the prolific artist Robert Longo. Cinema great Alfred Hitchock will be represented in both photography and in video installation.
The anticipated solo exhibition at Suvretta House by artist Howard Bingham named, “GOAT – Muhammad Ali”, proclaims to offer a unique insight into the life of the recently deceased champion. Also on the radar is the exhibition on celebrity fashion photographer, Richard Avedon.
American photographer Albert Watson will be honored with the Cartier Award in recognition of his lifetime of work, the award is supported by TASCHEN publishing house. It will be presented during the opening ceremony at hotel Kempinski this weekend.
In addition a solo exhibition by Albert Watson called ‘Kaos’ will be a featured event during the life of the 9th annual St. Moritz Art Masters program.
Speaking of big name sponsors, this year- in addition to Cartier- St. Moritz Art Masters partners with Montblanc, Hewlett Packard and Pirelli for the 10 day event.
