Photographer Ian Berry’s unique record of the South African apartheid features almost 100 photographs of some of the most dramatic, heart-wrenching and iconic moments of the last 40 years of South Africa’s tragic history.
The book titled, ‘Ian Berry: Living Apart‘, was written during apartheid’s height, the original text for these images stated:
“What happens next, or what the following weeks will bring, neither side can predict. But without negotiation, tragic bloodshed can be the only result.”
Berry’s images testify that these words were not heeded. However, images of resistance, struggle and eventual freedom still shine through in this powerful exhibition. The book, on sale now, includes a foreword by Archbishop Desmond M Tutu.
