Roman Kozak: Burberry Is More Than Just Plaid & Checks
Snakeskin’s gloss and matt effect on winter coats contrast the play of light and shadow at the Burberry fashion show in London’s Kensington Palace this season. It’s Christopher Bailey’s first collection since his announcement that the brand will be switching to a see-now, buy-now approach that mixes men’s and women’s clothes in twice-yearly collections.
In the new collection I don’t see the beloved check as much as the innovations the designer brings to it. The fringe and patchwork coats could easily warm you in winter; for autumn the brand has reserved military trenches and field Jackets in camouflage with gold buttons. One of the lastes innovations – the Patchwork coat – set to be the new hero piece – is a mix of texture, fabric and detail, individually named after British streets.
My girlfriend already has a beige trench coat so I’d like to choose a different item for her from this runway. The deep dark blue coat, which in length ends above the knee, would display her long charming legs. My darling’s light blonde hair would fall on the strong double collar and the leather belt would encircle the bend of her waist… I imagine if I unbuttoned the coat’s wood frog buttons I’d find underneath the light lamé dress in paisley brocade…
In my opinion it is exactly the use of prints, textures and pattern on dresses & skirts under the Patchwork and monochrome coasts is why Burberry stole the show for London Fashion Week.
I’ve loved Burberry since I was a teenager. And per usual the show includes the men’s pre-collection featuring an assortment of signature outerwear. I really adore Burberry’s coats and I want to have one in my wardrobe… It’s good to dream – if you dream a lot and with a big power inside, one day your dreams come true. But I also need to work hard to have that coveted piece! Ha-ha!
As about the hair and make-up styling, the brand does a punk forelock for girls and a disordered British look for guys; which is ok, but I always expect perfection to the smallest detail.
I think the thing I really love is the makeup! Shining tinsels surround the model’s eyes, it was charming in a way that it reminded me of tears. Tears for beauty, youth and peace…
