Dubbed an accessories wunderkind, Hugo Matha brings a fresh yet refined perspective to the world of handbags. He crafts his statement-making clutches of wood, Plexiglass, and fine leather, adding industrial hardware as a finishing touch. Each piece is handmade in the Aveyron region of Southern France, where the designer grew up, paying close attention to craftsmanship, structure, and detailing.

Hugo Matha left the South of France to move to Paris to study at the Duperre school and spend time in the atelier of Jean Charles de Castelbajac.  This led Matha towards the bespoke side of fashion design.  In 2014 he lent his artisanal touch to a line of transparent, handmade clutches – the voyeuristic Plexiglas windows offered a peek into a woman’s quotidien, however she wishes to show it. The bags made a big impact on chic department stores like Colette who’ve sold the young designer’s handbag line since his first season.  Wrapped in exotic skins and finished with sleek, industrial hardware, these architectural treasure chests are an exercise in opposites; marrying the opaque and translucent, the hard and soft, the ancient and urban.

The Hugo Matha collection is available for purchase online.
