The new transparent view of GUCCI
By: Roman Kozak
I reserved judgment for the womenswear Gucci collection until I could see it for myself. The menswear collection for Spring 2016, shown in June, was not to my liking.
The feminine elements of short sleeves and waif silhouettes were too skinny for me. I’m skinny, but they were too small even for me. In fittings and castings, I couldn’t breathe! So I waited to see what Gucci would propose for women.
From the first look I could recount the combination of lace and transparency from the Spring 2016 menswear collection. Also the light plant and animal motifs echoed the menswear collection. For the women’s collection, they garnish the skirts and dresses.
I like the graphic elements and asymmetrical silhouettes. They highlight this very feminine collection in a “Fairytale” mood, nostalgic for Elsa Schiaparelli’s 1939 ‘Circus Collection’ of oriental fabrics and motifs with hand-sewn embellishments.
The Gucci dresses evoke a vintage quality this season. And the big bows and rectangular leather handbags play a venerable role to further the effect. The looks are fresh with the beret and scarf at the neck in a ‘coquette-ish style’.
In addition to the trendy transparent looks, there are select colors that are hot for next season, such as blue, Caribbean coral and pasty deep green.
The cut of the suit remains tight, and for Women Spring 2016, is featured on shimmering cloth. In addition the suit takes on a light mood with the combination of the illuminated fabric, with the flowers and symbols auspiciously chosen to reflect a playful but purposeful spirit.
Unfortunately for me the womenswear collection does not offer clues to what the menswear would look like next season. So now I’m left waiting, thinking “Gucci cherche le femme” – so what kind of man will we be next?
