Famed photographer and filmmaker, Vincent Peters, will exhibit at the prestigious Galerie 206 in Berlin in late November 2015. The exhibition, a curated capsule collection of images, features 15 celebrity portraits in the theme of old Hollywood.
The German born photographer began his career in the 80s taking snaps while traveling around Thailand. In the 1990s Peters concentrated on fashion, beauty and celebrity photography, contributing to nearly every major fashion magazine including French, Italian, British, German, Japanese and Spanish Vogue, Numero, Arena, GQ, Dazed & Confused, Ten and The Face.
“…in fashion there is a lot of culture to it.. especially today when fashion is more defined by stylists and they like to reference it all. So you’ve got to be aware when, for example, someone says I want you to do it like Bianca Jagger at Studio 54.” When I started off, I quickly learned you’ve got to be really aware of references.”
The photographer amassed an impressive collection of books that spanned cinema and fashion from the past to modern times. As a result, his vast knowledge of cultural references along with his artistic eye made him one of the most sought after photographers in the business.
The exhibition portraits in Berlin will focus on old Hollywood glamour. The way Peters placed his models into scenes resembles the way stars were depicted in Hollywood in the 30s and 40s.
For the images selected for exhibition Laurent relied on the classic art of portrait photography. He focused on small gestures and subtle productions instead of prominent poses to ensure his subjects did not disappear into the backdrop and that their faces were the focal point.
“In the Light” will be on view at the prestigious Galerie 206 in Berlin from November 26th through January 16th, 2016.
