The shownotes of the Stella McCartney Spring 2016 collection stated that she wanted to “Accentuate the positive”. The interpretation on the runway showcased an exuberant daring line up of graphic, audacious color and sports references worked with a strong yet approachable sensuality.

For the beauty hairstylist Eugene Souleiman and make up artist Pat McGrath collaborated with Stella to ensure a look that met the concept of the Stella McCartney’s girl.

“I want to keep it light. It should be effortless,” said Souleiman. “I want the girls to feel cool and pretty. It’s just a celebration of the individual.” Ditto for the makeup. “We tried a few different things… [but it] looked a bit forced,” said Pat McGrath, who said McCartney desired that models appear as fresh as they are. “It’s non-detectable beauty,” said McGrath.

The collection opened with giant, fanciful tablecloth plaids. Dresses were constructed in curved sections that clung through the torso before opening into controlled but relaxed long skirts. Knits crisscrossed layers of sheer stripes for a sensual sportif. The palette was a spectrum of red, green, yellow, black and white, their bold, linear motifs arranged in high-energy opposition. The color-coding continued with sharp pleats in undulating tiers that moved with and fell away from the body — orange over pink over green plaid; gray over acid green.
