Ireland’s Ashford Castle Opens First PureFlow™ Spa In The Country.

Ashford Castle is a resplendent 13th century lakeside fortress in Irland’s County Mayo. The property was purchased as a residence in the 1970s by the Guinness family and later refurbished into a luxury hotel. Recently the proprietors added a spa to the grounds designed by architect Philippe Bonino. The spa’s two-year renovation conceived inside the castle’s conservatory complements the design of the former Irish stronghold.

Bonino and the design team created a space that melds with the castle’s original Gothic heritage. Handcrafted doors by local artisans are framed in oak with bronze detailing, floors are set in earthy gray Pietra Piasentina stone, window arches recall Gothic style, and the color palette of neutral grays and creams channels the original stonework of the castle.

The pièce de résistance is a mural in the indoor pool area created by South African ceramic artist Jane du Rand. The intricate mosaic draws inspiration from Irish folklore depicting the great oak tree thought to be a cosmic storehouse of wisdom. Woodland creatures which play a pivotal role in Celtic mythology are seen in the tile work throughout the spa most notably on the solid stone, Gothic-inspired reception desk.

Within the spa’s fairytale setting are a plethora of remarkable services including five treatment rooms, a Hammam, a steam room and a beautiful terrace with serene views over the tranquil lake.

The Spa and Fitness Center offers the latest wellness innovation with PureFlow™ technology, the first of its kind in Ireland. PureFlow™ is a new cardiovascular fitness program. The EKG driven passive cardio exercise technology helps the body heal, recover and rejuvenate.
