Food Editors’ Pick: Le Cantine Isola
Le Cantine Isola is a 20 year institution located in the heart of China Town in Milan. Early on the popular wine bar, in renegade fashion, bucked with tradition and suspended the use of tables. The loss is now a tradition as part of an ongoing contemporary flair for wine tasting in this unique space.
Le Cantine Isola is a rare Milan establishment due to its lofty selection of foreign and domestic vino. The bar features champagnes, Italian and non-Italian wines, including organic selections. The bar always has snack foods in the form of some crostini with salami and cheese on the buffet table at aperitif time. Distractions in stacks of old vintages and labels can be found under benches and in baskets along the floor.
Le Cantine Isola‘s patron, Luca Sarais, is a staple of the wine bar. He acts as sommelier to help you choose the right bottle. The prices of the wines, stacked up to the ceiling, are written by hand and cover the shelves. An outdoor space with benches on the pedestrian stretch of via Sarpi makes a stop at Cantine Isola even more perfect. Heat lamps run along the temple of the wooden outdoor structure making it a cozy destination, even in winter.
