Vivienne Westwood combines her men’s & women’s shows;leaves Milan

Vivienne Westwood has announced that it will present its women’s and men’s collections together as of next year. The unified show will take place during London Fashion Week Men’s, which typically falls in January. This news followed an announcement on Thursday that the label is to move it’s men’s show to London Collections: Men after years on the Milan Fashion Week schedule.

The change is part of Vivienne Westwood’s strategy to streamline all areas of the company. In February, the house officially incorporated its youth-focused Vivienne Westwood Red Label into its namesake mainline. The designer’s unisex Gold Label line was renamed Andrea Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood earlier this year and will continue to be shown at Paris Fashion Week.

“Reduce our company in size. And reduce it to its essentials,” the designer said in a statement, describing the company’s new strategy. “Selling only what we love. Our whole structure will be directed by quality. Buy less, choose well, make it last.”

The change fits with an industry-wide shakeup of the fashion calendar: Burberry and Gucci have both unified its mens and womens runway shows, while contemporary houses like Hood by Air have been experimenting with a see-now, buy-now approach to each seasonal collection.
