The new Issey Miyake Spring/Summer 2017 collection was inspired by the traditional costumes of the Varanasi region in India. The brand showed their journey through color via the soft-textured fabrics; from the nuances of white to the graphic nature of color, from light to dark to the breaking point where the diffracted colors appear. It seemed as if you were seeing the photo album from their trip, turning the page one after the other.

From the opening looks I preferred the light color and soft combinations of high waist pants and round collar shirts. The use of traditional Indian belts was interesting and the way the mantles flew with the wind further emphasized the mood of the new collection. You could tell that the focus of the collection was on crinkled fabrics – a symbolic element of the Issey Miyake Man. This collection featured many articles in organic fibers and it looked comfortable to wear, as if you were wrapped in a piece of cloth.

I found the colorful looks with dynamic patterns curious because it presented a continuous summer fluidity vibe. The shirts reminded me of a traditional Indian celebration in particular– the Holi festival. It is a celebration in which everyone goes outside and people throw colors in the air and at each other. It is so much fun!

Light jackets and shirts with minimalist structures kept their shapes due to an internal construction system and the box shape of the clothes. The material, developed by an original new yarn, was creased and color printed on both sides which to magnificent effect.

This season’s collection offered simple and relaxed elegance, represented through the use of natural fabrics and irregular textures, and was meant for a man who was both urban and close to nature. I felt that I needed the samples of this collection in my summer wardrobe because they would supplement my modern artistic man look.

The new Issey Miyake summer spring collection – it’s where my journey to India continued, come with me to discover more!
