The easternmost of churfirsten’s ‘seven peaks’ and the Chäserrugg mountain with its unspoiled nature and picturesque topography has long been a tourist destination of nearby residents in Zurich, Saint Gallen and Lake Constance.
The Chäserrugg ski resort is a new travel destination to the area, perched high on top Mount Chäserrugg. The building stands at an altitude of approximately 2,260 meters above sea level. It completely surrounds the 1970s-built cable car station and offers a modern facility for winter sports tourists.
Acclaimed architectural studio Herzog & De Meuron completed the summit building which includes a Swiss cuisine restaurant with an outdoor terrace, a concert hall and dedicated spaces for cultural events, seminars, meetings and private functions.
Herzog & De Meuron used a sustainable landscape architecture strategy to modernize the region’s wooden architecture, while simultaneously respecting the site’s impressive surroundings.
The building stands as a signal of the region’s intent to develop clean, natural and culture-based tourism with further projects currently in development.
