Daphna Laurens design studio was founded in Eindhoven in 2008 by Daphna Isaacs and Laurens Manders, both of whom graduated from the Design Academy in Eindhoven in 2006 and 2008. The studio’s stylistic research is geared towards art and experimentation, both in the search for new forms as in the use of materials, with the aim of turning everyday products into objet d’art that have their own distinctive identity.
The artifacts created by Daphna Laurens seem to be hybrids, presenting themselves as versatile solutions that combine functionality and art expressiveness, even in an attempt to reveal the extraordinariness of everyday rituals through their use.
The ‘Cirkel’ pieces shown below draws its form from the circle and curve. The humorous, anthropomorphic series is comprised of a mirror, floor lamp, wall lamp and coffee table. The works are the result of a manipulation of shape, resulting in a fantastical circular series.
The studio, which presents new series of furnishings seasonally, has presented its work at the Galerie Gosserez in Paris, the Krehký Gallery and the Krehký Mikulov Art Design Festival in the Czech Republic, having also taken part in the “Trading Places. See the Daphna Laurens Studio website for pricing and the latest design series.
