Is dad-core really a thing? Well, yes and no. “Dad-core” is the popular new phrase in fashion used to sell a style, chances are you’ve been wearing the look for years. Dad core style is typically a hoodie, nylon track pants or denim jeans, and sneakers. It used to be called urban street wear but ‘dad-core’ is the new family-friendly (and Caucasian-friendly) lingo recently credited to commercial designs by Demna Gvasalia.
Whatever you call it style boards are attaching the style aesthetic to nesting millennial fathers who are redefining what it means to be a dad. The cool ‘new’ look is often seen on dads walking with their children in the park or hanging out at coffee shops.
But it isn’t all street wear, men who are deep into House 99 have their own sporty-chic version of dad-core style.
But let’s face it designers can label any look they put on the runway as “dad-core”. The key accessory to make it work is the baby.
