In its over-100 year history, Chanel has only ever shown in New York twice before.
Today, December 4th, Karl Lagerfeld will present the Chanel Métiers d’Art collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET). The annual Métiers d’Art showcase highlights the relationship between Chanel and their artisan partners, the Métiers d’art Houses, and the manufacturers. Chanel is the only House to dedicate a collection to this precious savoir faire that contributes so much to the global influence of French luxury and its timeless fashion.
Since 2002, Karl Lagerfeld has unveiled a Métiers d’art collection each December somewhere in the world. This is the first time the collection will be presented in New York.
Today, the Métiers d’art collection titled ‘Paraffection’ brings together twenty-six Maisons d’art houses and manufacturers. Chanel released a single mood image (below) ahead of the show.
Chanel Trivia: Gabrielle Chanel first visited the United States in 1931 including a stop in New York City on her way to Hollywood. Her first real presence in New York was in 1939 at the New York World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park as a French representative of Couture and Perfumery.
