Last season Jeremy Scott presented the Moschino Spring 2018 collection in Milan and critics weren’t pleased, especially the larger publications whose critics found the floral inspired collection derivative.

This collection lacked the visual wit of some of the Moschino shows Scott has put on in Milan.

There is perhaps no more unoriginal design concept than florals for spring, so Scott embraced the obvious and went berserk with it.

In December critics began to embrace the collection after Zendaya emerged on the red carpet to promote her film The Last Showman in Sydney wearing one of the garden-inspired dresses from the runway and the fashion news outlets around the world applauded Zendaya in the look.

When I saw Zendaya in Moschino’s Monarch butterfly dress on the red carpet for The Greatest Showman it made my heart stop for a second.

Jeremy Scott leaned into the praise, capitalizing on the success of the dress creating a floral-specific collection he calls “Secret Garden”. Yesterday Moschino and Jeremy Scott began marketing the commercial looks.

The pieces are inspired by the floral gowns from the runway, yes all of those “unoriginal” floral looks the critics hate. Scott transcribed the florals onto a print which he placed on dresses, hoodies, t-shirts and handbags.

You could say Zendya and all that ‘Black Girl Magic’ saved the day.
