Iconic Athlete Serena Williams Sings “I Touch Myself” For Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

On April 21, 2013 Chrissy Amphlett, singer of the Billboard 100 top charting single “I Touch Myself”, died of Breast Cancer. The following year Chrissy’s family and friends and Cancer Council NSW launched the breast cancer awareness project “I Touch Myself” as a tribute to her. Today, Serena Williams posted a video singing the iconic melody to call attention to Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Serena Williams calls attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month for the “I Touch Myself” project.

The campaign features the superstar athlete in a portrait-style video, striped nude to the waist, cupping her exposed breasts. The vulnerability of the video is meant to highlight the importance of searching for signs of breast cancer, such as checking for lumps as a practice for early detection. Right now 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Yet early detection offers a much greater chance of beating it.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month I’ve recorded a version of The Divinyls global hit “I Touch Myself” to remind women to self-check regularly. _ Yes, this put me out of my comfort zone, but I wanted to do it because it’s an issue that affects all women of all colors, all around the world. Early detection is key – it saves so many lives. I just hope this helps to remind women of that. _ The music video is part of the I Touch Myself Project which was created in honor of celebrated diva, Chrissy Amphlett, who passed away from breast cancer, and who gave us her hit song to remind women to put their health first. The project is proudly supported by @BerleiAus for Breast Cancer Network Australia. _ Visit the link in my bio to find out more. #ITouchMyselfProject #BerleiAus #BCNA #DoItForYourself
