JW Anderson’s Masculine Tudor shapes ‘Empower’ Women

JW Anderson’s rise as an A-list designer is now a done deal. This season his slashed Tudor sleeves (“like Henry the Eighth’s jackets”), shirred army khaki’s, quilted-knee jeans, silk pleated blouse-bombers, long knitted dresses tokes his cleverness for experimental fabrics and design. Anderson cites Henry VIII, as inspiration.

“I like the idea of a woman wearing something that is so masculine. The shape is very empowering,” Anderson said backstage.

The tailoring on an Anderson garment speaks to his instincts. He knows exactly how long to dangle his asymmetric, gathered skirts and where to attach the bodice’s patch-worked embroidery to show off a well-fitted silhouette.
