Monday the British Fashion Council (BFC) announced the shortlisted designers for the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund 2018.
Established in 2008, The Fund aims to discover new talent and accelerate growth over a twelve-month period through mentoring and awarding a cash prize of £200,000. This year’s applications were encouraged from all over the UK.
The shortlist includes Molly Goddard, David Koma, Regina Pyo, Marques’ Almeida, Le Kilt and Huishan Zhang. All shortlisted designers will receive a full mentoring program through the BFC’s Business Support team. Additionally, Xia Ding of JD.com will offer expertise on how to best penetrate the Chinese market and expand their customer bases into the country.
It’s really exciting that this year the fund has opened to younger businesses and I’m thrilled to be shortlisted.
The brand has been growing at a very healthy pace for the past few years. We have built a solid structure to the company, but now is the right time to push things forward, to expand and take it to the next level.
Last year was amazing, having my baby Luka, the Fashion Awards nomination for Best Emerging Designer, and now this. I feel very grateful and humbled.
We have an incredible list of things we want to do, creatively and business-wise within the brand, but also helping to shape fashion to be more inclusive, more realistic and more responsible.

I would like to explore new ways of promoting the longevity of clothing through educational workshops – both with school-age children, and partnering with cultural institutions nationwide.
There are still many vital elements we’re missing to help us be more productive. With the store launch last year, the next step and missing piece is e-commerce. The money would be crucial to help us achieve a modern, versatile website, so we can reach our customers all over the world.
This year’s judging committee is chaired by Edward Enninful OBE, Editor of British Vogue. The committee comprises of experts from across the fashion industry: Caroline Rush CBE, British Fashion Council; Erdem Moralioglu, ERDEM; Gemma Metheringham, LABEL; Helen David, Harrods; Jourdan Dunn, model; Maria Hatzistefanis, Rodial; Sarah Manley, Burberry; Sarah Mower MBE, BFC Ambassador for Emerging Talent & Vogue Runway; Paul Price, Topshop and Xia Ding, JD.com.
The winner will be announced on Tuesday May 8, 2018.
Previous winners of the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund include Christopher Kane, Erdem, Mary Katrantzou, Mother of Pearl, Nicholas Kirkwood,palmer//harding, Peter Pilotto and Sophia Webster.
