Jeremy Scott successfully introduced whimsical fashion into the mainstream. One could argue, Scott paved the way for designers like Alessandro Michele for Gucci (remember the Barbie Collection by Jeremy Scott for Moschino?). And now a touch of whimsy is the standard to catch and keep the interest of commercial buyers.
It appears Moschinio hopes Scott can do it again, but with furniture. The American designer has teamed up with Italian company Gufram to launch a spirited furniture collection at the upcoming Salone del Mobile, most known as Milan Design Week.
Gufram who has made collaborations with Paul Smith and Toilet Paper magazine are known for their pop-art style collections. Provocative, playful, exuberant – Gufram’s unique museum quality pieces attract a more contemporary crowd.
The “Moschino Kisses Gufram,” capsule collection pays homage to a few of Moschino’s most memorable designs including its biker jacket bag and logo high heels. The biker bag gets transformed into a cabinet and the heels serve as a bookshelf and an ottoman.
The capsule collection’s most iconic moment is without a doubt the zipped lip sofa. The juicy shape and bright red color floods us with memories of the 1937 Mae West lips sofa by Salvador Dali.
“The lips sofa is one of the most indelible design creations of all time! I was honored to leave my finger print on this icon with this limited edition Zipped Lips version,” says Scott. “This partnership between Moschino and Gufram is a true celebration of pop culture.”
The furniture collection will be displayed at Moschino’s flagship store in Milan from April 4 to April 9.
