Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Wins Democratic Primary Off Healthcare For All, Free Education Platform.

In November 2017 Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was working as a bartender and in June 2018, less than a year later, she defeated Joseph Crowley taking his place as the Democratic primary for Congress. She did it without taking a dime of superpac money and no support from the Democratic party. And she did it on a heavily progressive platform that was massively popular- free health care for all, free education, a Federal jobs guarantee and she wants to abolish ICE. She did it with the support of the working class, whose struggles she knows well — her father died in the middle of the recession in 2008, and her mother was left cleaning school buses.

“That’s why I started waitressing and bartending, so that she could keep her home,” Ocasio-Cortez said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Wednesday. “So I understand the pain of working-class Americans because I have experienced the pain and I have experienced the urgency of this economic moment.”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

This isn’t a left vs. right thing, it’s a governing for the many vs. governing for the few; supporting the under-served vs. lining your own pockets.

Now, she will most likely become the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. Fingers crossed.
